Who am I?

I am a compassionate, skillful psychotherapist and a social work professor at Rutgers University, where I teach MSW students to be effective therapists. My earlier career in engineering, corporate leadership, and international development taught me to trace problems to their root causes, analyze systems, and assess risks – skills I integrate into clinical work.

This background gives me a distinctive perspective and helps me relate to people with various life pressures. In addition to talk therapy, I offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy® (ART®), a somatic technique that uses bilateral brain stimulation to support lasting change, without requiring you to share any details you prefer to keep private. I am deeply committed to confidentiality and to creating a respectful space for our work.

I first met Mariann during my first semester of graduate school at Rutgers, where she was my Social Work Practices I professor. From the very beginning, it was clear that she embodies the very values of the social work profession. Her warmth, understanding, and ability to see her students and clients as whole, complex people—not just numbers in a system, as is so often the case—were tremendously formative to both my education and the foundation of my clinical practice.
After graduation, when I was seeking supervision toward my clinical licensure, I reached out to Mariann without hesitation. My experience with her as a supervisor was both healing and deeply informative. I always felt I could be completely candid with her, and she consistently met me with validation, insight, and flexibility. She often recommended articles and books that turned out to be exactly what I needed at the time, helping me grow both clinically and personally.
Now, as an independently licensed therapist with my own practice, I continue to look to Mariann as a trusted source of mentorship, friendship and professional support. Having her guidance and encouragement throughout every step of my journey has been an incredible honor and blessing. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

Mariann has helped me both personally and professionally (as a physical therapist) for many years. She has a great perspective on health and the healthcare system, as well as an unbelievable way to always convey the positive side of both. Her knowledge has helped many of my patients as well, whether she is fully aware of it or not! I could not recommend her more highly!

Mariann cared for my loved one, was thoughtful and attentive, allowing her to express and unburden herself in ways she could not with family. It brought all of us peace and nourished our souls, knowing her visits with Mariann helped her so very much. The real gift she gave us was that through her therapy with our loved one, it improved all of our relationships at home. We remain truly grateful.

Mariann has an amazing way of putting herself in my skin. What she reflects back to me from there is always insightful and helps me to better understand my own feelings or come to my own realization about the next step in my growth journey. She has an ability to meet people just where they are. She is one of the most non-judgmental people I've ever encountered, and I feel more compassion for myself and others when I speak with her.

Mariann listens actively and reflects back to me in a way that I know she understands my feelings. I feel safe while talking with Mariann. She allows me to speak in my own time, without interjecting any leading statements. If she doesn’t hear me or understand me, she asks immediately so that there is no miscommunication or misunderstanding. Mariann is not afraid to take on extremely hard subjects and life issues; she carefully provides space and minimal interjections to allow me to open my heart to my issues. She provides helpful feedback and suggestions that mirror what I believe are my strengths and ways forward that I have proposed.
